River Hawk Camping

Camp Promotions and Outdoor Committee

Scouting is built on providing Scouts a chance to learn, grow, build fitness, and have fun in the outdoors.  In close coordination with the Council Camping Committee, this team works with River Hawk District Commissioners to help packs, troops, and crews plan a year-round schedule of camping and outdoor program events.  It keeps the Units and District Staff informed of opportunities for Cub Scout Family Camping, Cub Scout Day Camp, resident camping for Webelos and Scouts BSA Troops at the Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation, weekend camping ideas for Troops and Venturing Crews, and National High Adventure Bases like Philmont, Sea Base, and the Summit Bechtel Reserve.

The Outdoor Committee works closely with the District Activities Committee and Health and Safety Committees to support several District-run outdoor field events thorough the year.  In River Hawk District, the Outdoor Committee Chairman directly oversees the District’s Order of the Arrow Chapter adult Advisor, supporting the Boy Scouts of America national honor society and its camping and service activities across all Troops.  For more on the “OA” go here.  To weave the principles of low-impact camping and environmental stewardship into all our outdoor programs, this committee also has an Outdoor Ethics Coordinator and Leave No Trace Educator.  And, because field sports are such an integral part of an outdoor program, a highly qualified Shooting Sports Coordinator promotes and supports marksmanship and archery programs and activities
