In the mid-1800’s close to 400,000 pioneers embarked on a 2,170 mile journey west into unknown lands. Along their journey they faced many challenges that put their skills to the test – from cooking meals, setting up camp, tending to medical needs, to crossing rivers and finding their way through an unfriendly wilderness. Get your sleds ready to embark on a journey of your own, filled with challenges not unlike those faced by the pioneers of the past.
The Klondike Derby is a day-long competition for Scouts BSA Patrols and Webelos Dens held in mid-Winter as a challenge to preparation and teamwork. This year we’ll be running one loop, but with specific activities for Scouts and Webelos.
Klondike involves challenge stations designed to test the Scouts’ knowledge of skills ranging from first aid to problem solving, and everything in between. But the greater challenge is to dress and prepare for whatever the weather offers. We’ve held successfully Klondike Derbies in 9 degree temps with a foot of snow on the ground!
Webelos and Arrow of Light Dens, Scouts BSA Troops, and Venturing Crews – mark your calendar when a date is selected for the next Derby.
