National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
What is NYLT?
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth leaders with skills and experience in leadership that they can use in their home unit and their everyday life.
The course is conducted under the auspices of the Baltimore Area Council Training Committee using the latest national BSA-developed National Youth Leadership Training syllabus and parallels the Wood Badge training for adults.
What is the purpose?
The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he or she must KNOW, and what he or she must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.
Course Design
NYLT is a six-day course designed to represent a month in the life of a model Scout Troop. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, through the use of memory aids, allowing youth to understand and employ leadership skills much faster.
