Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award

Each year, the Baltimore Area Council selects one or more recipients to be honored with the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award.  This national award is presented to individuals for demonstrating involvement in the development and implementation of Scouting opportunities for youth from rural or low-income urban backgrounds.  This is in fulfillment of Dr. Young’s dream of justice and equality for all.

Congratulations to this year’s Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award recipients, Joseph T. Jones, President & CEO of the Center for Urban Families, and Shelonda Stokes, President of the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore. Joseph and Shelonda have worked tirelessly throughout their careers to provide equity, opportunities, and service to underprivileged communities throughout the Greater Baltimore Area.

The Baltimore Area Council is very thankful to our co-chairs and 2022 Whitney M. Young Jr. Awardees, Dr. John Brothers and Alicia Wilson who helped to ensure this program’s continued success.
