
Merit Badge Counselor Application
New Adult Counselors:
- Complete the BSA Adult Leader application. Use position code 42 Merit Badge Counselor.
- Complete the ongoing background check consent form.
- Complete YPT in My.Scouting.org and then print out a copy of your completion certificate.
- Complete Merit Badge Counselor training on My.Scouting.org
- Complete form Merit Badge Counselor Application.
- Make sure your contact email and phone are up to date.
- List all troop unit numbers you are a member of. If none write “None”
- List the merit badges one per line under column Merit Badges in the table.
- Place an A for add or D for drop next to each merit badge under column Add (A) Drop (D) in the table.
- List the qualifications for each merit badge under column for each merit badge, list qualification(s) that support your requesting the table.
- If you are listing more than 8 merit badges, use the Extra Merit Badges sheet.
- Fill in the date in which you passed Youth Protection Training Course. Please do not use the date it expires.
- Complete YPT then print out a copy of your completion certificate. Copy of current Youth Protection Certificate which expires after July 1, 2023.
- Those that have any of the listed merit badges below need to supply training records good through July 1, 2023. See those qualification under Guide to Advancement 7.0.1.1.

- Email all renewal paperwork to the Dean of Merit Badges. Do not send partial applications and do not send to Council.
- It is not necessary to fill out a new adult application or background consent form if you are renewing as a merit badge counselor.
- You should receive an email from Scoutbook with an update to your list of merit badges if you are adding. Everyone rechartering will receive a confirmation email back from Dean of Merit Badges letting you know your information has been received.

Renewing Adult Counselors:
Thank you for your participation as a Merit Badge Counselor over the last year. Your status as a Merit Badge counselor expires on June 30, 2023. As you know, Merit Badge Counselors must be renewed each year. Your current list of merit badges can be found by logging in to Scoutbook.
Please use the attached fillable pdf forms to assist in streamlining the renewal process. To help in the future save what you completed so you can add/drop or update in the future.
